Always have tasty treats in your pocket when bringing your puppy out with you, it’s amazing what they’ll do for a tiny piece of chicken or cooked sausage. Use the treat as a tool in getting more control over them and for them to get more control over themselves.

Don’t buy into trendy, expensive bedding, at the end of the day your dog won’t know the difference between a €70 bedding you got in a pet shop from a €5 blanket you got in an ordinary shop. Also quite often, even after taking it down, they’ll pull it out into the dirt, but it won’t matter too much if it’s a cheap blanket.

• Start the training from the time you get your puppy, it’s never too early. Teaching them to walk on a lead, stopping jumping up and not nipping is much easier to do when they are small and easier to handle and not when they are big stubborn adult dog.
